With the object of creating a sense of place in mind, I anchored this work in a past architectural intervention titled 'Heartbeat House'. This goal of placemaking through a singular physical object, led me to explorations in fragmentation and scale.
THE OBJECT

Using a charcoal study model from 'Heartbeat House' as my physical object, I began working towards my goal of placemaking through the abstraction and distortion of proportion; through the reordering of form, using thumbnail photographs.
THE PROCESS

As fragmentation continued, the object of intent became clear. Looking back to the intent behind 'Heartbeat House', I found the path for this abstraction in the celebration of materiality, and the power of architectural form.
THE FIRST COMPOSITION

While staying true to the spirit of the initial object both in form and function, this reordering of space allows for a perception shift. The power of composition is apparent as this object emerges as 'The Monument of Shadows'.
